Pathetic

Arrogant. Prideful to a fault. Bitter. Disrespectful. Oh, I have about a hundred other words to describe this woman's embarrassing display of ego. (And I promise you that ma'am is NOT on my list!) I don't know if she felt the need to show her rear-end because she's seriously that impressed with herself, or because she's so enormously insecure that she has to demand being addressed by her "title". I've heard there are women offended by being called ma'am because they feel a need to take the feminist agenda to every extreme imaginable. I guess some women complain it makes them feel "old"....Oh good grief, whiny-whiny-whiny.

Regardless of her reasoning, this was completely uncalled for, absolutely ridiculous and just plain rude. Military protocol advises the use of "sir" and "ma'am" when addressing anyone higher on the chain of command than the officer. Clearly, this Brigadier General meant no disrespect! But it's evident public servant Boxer did. If not, she seriously needs to reconsider her tone as well as the manner in which she presents herself. Otherwise, some could view this display as a reflection of how the extreme & farthest left wingnuts truly feel about our military men & women who serve & protect.

Military personnel are not the only ones who use the terms. Most Southerners use the words to show respect and to be polite. (Just an interjection...I tire of people telling my children they don't have to say sir and ma'am. They are my children, and yes they have to!) Again, I don't know what Boxer's issues with the word ma'am might be. And quite frankly, if I tried, I could not care less. I say if she (or anyone else for that matter) has a problem with ma'am and sir...well, get over it. Just like I have to get over a whole lot of crap in this country based on the "culture" and/or "orientation" of others!

I certainly hope SENATOR Boxer is referring to all of you California voters as "boss" because she does work for you; although, I'm guessing she conveniently forgets that minor detail as often as possible.

Oh Hail mighty Senator!

We bow down to you oh high Goddess of Politics. How dare someone disrespect you by referring to yourself as ma'am. That is such a lowly title . . ma'am. How rude of him to attempt to follow protocol.

Next time maybe he should try "Sir".

Next time someone calls me "ma'am" I'm going to interrupt them and say:

"And please call me High Goddess of Motherhood, I've worked hard to earn that title."

P.S.

Do you think she does that in the drive through?

Worker: "Here is your burger and fries ma'am"

Her: "Senator, Call me Senator"

Worker: "Here are your burger and fries, Senator"

Jill, you are seriously funny! I thought your first comment was the greatest, but then you hit me with the second...I'm laughing out loud.

She probably thinks drive-throughs are only for lowlifes like Brigadier Generals and High Goddesses of Motherhood! ;)

When you hate the military, I reckon you hate all the militaries ways.

Oy vey.

This is ridonk. I can GUARANTEE that a Brigadier General worked much harder to earn his title than any elected official ever did. (Although they probably SPENT more than the general did to get it...)

Also, I hate when people tell my kid to not use a title. Maybe they don't care if my kid respects them, but I certainly do.

That woman is 100 shades of unlikable. I just plain can't stand her.

Wow. I did NOT hear her refer to him by ANY title. Not even Sir. How on earth can she expect greater respect than that which she gives?

And, I agree with La Yen. Working hard to become Senator (glad handing) versus working hard to become Brigadier General (brains and brawn) reside in two entirely different categories.

Honestly, I don't follow politics much. I don't even know who this woman is. I don't care what 'side' she's on, she's out of line.

Ok - I admit when the bag boy at the grocery store called me Ma'am for the first time I was stunned! I have lived in the South and understand all of that manners (and I agree with it, and participated) but out west that just means you are old!!

That being said, when you are dealing with the military and the gentleman speaking is speaking with respect it is HIGHLY disrespectful to treat him that way!! I saw this on Late night TV and I was appalled!

Jill - you are sooo funny. :)

i am LoW('s sister) came over from her blog.
soooo...i worked for the senate for 2 and a half years. did not like this SENATOR. i talked about her reasons for being the way she is all the time and it came down to being short and a woman. she wore very high heels and still just came up to about my shoulders (and i'm short) and being a woman who "fought" to be in a "mans" world still feeling like she has something to prove.
so yeah...her comment is just so like her.

It makes me sick to even watch! you summed it up in your title post..PATHETIC!

What I would give, what I would pay to have seen and heard him say, "Why yes ma'am, I will call you whatever you want, Senator, ma'am."

Or better yet..."Bite me,(W)itch!"

I swear to all that is holy if she was from my state I would rally the troops and demand her resignation...
"PATHETIC"...and arrogant, pompous, self-ordained egomaniac. I cannot stand much more!

"High Goddess of Motherhood" :):)...LOVE IT! and yes, she does exactly that in the drive-thru, at Target, and everywhere else she must suffer the "commoners."

I cannot say anything else, I am so irritated...I have to go find something else to do right now I am so mad! FREAKIN' IDIOT!

WHAT. ON. EARTH.
If he addressed her by the title that I think she deserves, General dear would have been demoted to private.
What really pisses me off (and I don't use that word lightly, I feel a little like Snarky Mama right now), is this: if the "Senator" had been a man, would he have even blinked at being called "Sir"? Of course not.
I'm so mad I'm seeing red. Glad we only have idiots like Arpaio from AZ.

I just found your blog through a friend's (Emily), and died laughing and then cried and then got overtly passionate (read angry-ish). You have a wonderful gift of writing- I feel every emotion you pen.

That said- what can my title be? I can assure you that I work 10 times as hard as her highness the senator.

p.s. I thought we lived in America where we were all created equal and there were no titles of aristocracy- or hasn't her highness heard?

Hey Natalie! Just dropped by to say hi! Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog posts recently.

Oh and I thought a very unchristian like thought when I saw this post. But I think everyone has covered this one quite well with their responses!

I don't even know what to think of that. Her tone and demeanor were so disrespectful. I feel sorry for anyone who has to work with her.

I really liked this book too. My book; www.eloquentbooks.com/TrueLoveIsNotCommon.html, has similar main characters. I grew up reading this author. Hope my book one day will reach many readers as this author.
